Day 27: A Continuation of Collaborative Filmmaking with APAK

Day 27: A Continuation of Collaborative Filmmaking with APAK

Today was another important workday in collaboration with APAK towards the completion of the documentary film and preparations for it’s screening on Wednesday evening. After leaving the beautiful Hosteria San Luis in Cayambe, we returned to a familiar hotel in Otavalo. Some of us continued our post-production work in the lobby while others went to APAK to continue their critical editing work. Some of the post-production work completed by those of us who were not assisting APAK with final edits of the film included printing flyers and sorting through photos to put together photo albums for all the people involved in the production and execution of this project.

After the pages for the photo albums were complete and the flyers were printed, we embarked on a journey throughout the communities of Guachala, Juan Montalvo and Cayambe to hand out the flyers and attempt to generate enough interest in the film to entice people to come to the screening on Wednesday evening. Handing out flyers was challenging at time due to our limited Spanish-speaking abilities, however after awhile and a lot of practice we got the hang of it and enjoyed speaking to many members of the community about the work we did with APAK in their communities. We were able to hand out a total of 1200 flyers in a variety of locations and we are hopeful we will see a lot of those people at the screening tomorrow. We left the day feeling satisfied and anxious for the screening, unsure of what the turn out would be like and excited to see all the work we’ve done the past couple of weeks come to fruition.

At the end of the day we were all relieved to have the majority of our hard work with APAK completed and looking forward to the more enjoyable parts of the exchange; seeing the final project and celebrating all of our hard work.  Our hard work for the remainder of the dialogue is far from finished, however, and many of us took the free time we were given this evening an tomorrow as an opportunity to get a jump start on some of the remaining assignments we have so we are not too overwhelmed over the next week.  Although it is a lot to think about, we are all currently focused on our screening with APAK tomorrow evening, and extremely excited to see how it all turns out.  More tomorrow!

UPDATE: The film screening was a success; there was not one open seat and we saw people there that we had given flyers to in the community!  It was an extremely exciting and rewarding experience to see how much all our hard work paid off.
