Luke Shin, Veronica Ramirez, and Jun Lee, all Northeastern University undergraduate students, recently attended the 2016 American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session & Exhibition, in Denver, CO with members of the Innovations in Oral Health Team. Each wanted to share their story and inspire other students to pursue similar opportunities as future health care providers.

Each student has shared an excerpt of their experience below:

Luke Shin (pictured left): “The ADEA Conference has shown me the numerous possibilities for my future as a dental student and a dentist. As I am entering as Class of 2020 at University of Maryland College of Dental Surgery, I am looking forward to participating in community outreach programs, dental education research, cultural competency, and interprofessional education after attending this conference.”

Veronica Ramirez (pictured middle): ” The ADEA conference was an exciting and insightful weekend spent among my future peers. I enjoyed that so many of the presentations were about building a diverse and interprofessional workforce, as these are topics I am also passionate about. There was a strong sense of community and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet and hear from various leaders in the field of dentistry. Hearing about other schools’ initiatives and programs made me all the more excited to begin dental school in the fall.”

Jun Lee (pictured right): “This past week has been an incredible experience: one that I can barely form into words. With endless opportunities to learn about the ever-evolving field of dentistry and foster new relationships with students, faculty, and practicing dentists, I found myself being immersed more than ever as a pre-dental student. Experiences such as speaking with presenters one-on-one about their research and networking with over 40 dental schools during the weekend were just some of the pieces that made this conference so special.”
