IMG_5617On November 5th, sixteen faculty members, preceptors, clinicians and graduate students from Northeastern University, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston Health Care for the Homeless and other various universities and institutions participated in the first of a series of professional development workshops aimed at delivering oral health core clinical competencies to non-dental providers. Utilizing a train-the-trainer approach, participants learned how to perform a patient-specific oral health risk assessment on pediatric, adult and geriatric patients through the use of interactive case studies and peer-to-peer oral exams. The workshop’s targeted competencies and skills are directly aligned with the 2014 HRSA Interprofessional Oral Health Core Clinical Competencies, with the intention that participants will begin incorporate these new skills into education and practice. Future workshops, all offered free of charge, will be advertised on our website. Please contact us if you would like to be added to our mailing list.

We would like to acknowledge Lori Giblin, Associate Professor, and Lori Rainchoso, Graduate Program Director, at Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene for their assistance in developing and teaching this workshop.
