Overview

With the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies, you can create your own customized degree program and pave your own path. Working with an academic advisor, you will select specific academic courses to compose a degree program that meets your intellectual, personal, and professional goals.

Choosing from an array of options, you will have the unique opportunity to build a program that is finely tuned to your strengths and interests.  Unlike traditional undergraduate degree programs in which you major in a specific academic area, this program allows you to pursue an area of interest that is not pre-defined as a major concentration.

Northeastern's signature experiential learning model combines academics with professional practice to help students acquire relevant, real-world skills they can apply to their desired industry. Each program offers its own unique experiential learning opportunities, but they might include:

  • Experiential Learning at Work — Working professionals collaborate with their employer to develop a project that addresses a key business need their company has in an area they want familiarity with.
  • Experiential Network (XN) — Students work virtually with a sponsoring organization on a short-term project over a six-week period.
  • Full-Time Co-op Opportunities — Students on co-op work in a paid position in their field of study for three to six months.

Career Outcomes

Your career prospects will be largely dependent upon your course of study and the industry that you choose to pursue. However, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in occupations that require at least a bachelor's degree is expected to grow faster than employment in other sectors of the American labor market.

What can you do with your degree?

With the guidance of a Northeastern University faculty member, you will create a program that integrates liberal arts with a special concentration.

Candidates for this program may be interested in pursuing a career as a:

  • Top- or mid-level manager
  • Insurance, securities, real estate, or business service professional

Industry-Aligned Faculty

Our industry-aligned faculty bring relevant real-world experience, knowledge, expertise, and connections that will help you achieve your career goals.
