Academics
The College of Arts, Media and Design houses a unique combination of the arts and media disciplines that drive today’s global economy. Unlike traditional arts or communications colleges, CAMD offers a truly interdisciplinary educational experience grounded in collaboration, experimentation, and hands-on learning. Students are strongly encouraged to investigate complementary disciplines to enhance their primary areas of study.
Architecture
The undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Architecture learn about the global forces that shape our cities: design, history, technology, commerce, and culture. The school combines critical thinking and design innovation to address the challenges of the contemporary city.
Art + Design
The Department of Art + Design provides focused undergraduate and graduate study of art, graphic design, and interactive media in the context of a liberal arts education. Students will find a lively and challenging combination of studio courses and historical studies in an interdisciplinary environment.
Communication Studies
Communication Studies addresses one central concern: the study of humans’ communicative capacities. We study technologies, social forms and practices, and analyze the impact of communicative styles, strategies, and practices on political, cultural and economic development.
Game Design
The Game Design program brings an exciting new discipline to Northeastern that incorporates forward-thinking concepts in technology, art, design, engineering, science, and business. Students of the program learn this emerging field of study from some of the most highly regarded practitioners in the industry.
Journalism
The School of Journalism prepares students for careers in journalism and related fields by combining academic excellence with hands-on reporting and writing experience, and access to the new technology driving today’s news industry.
Media & Screen Studies
Media and Screen Studies is devoted to the study and production of media. Through a wide range of courses in film, television, advertising, digital media and popular music, students are exposed to different ways to think about media content, media platforms and media production.
Music
Students in the Department of Music enjoy access to state-of-the-art music labs and take their learning outside the classroom through co-op experiences with major record labels, radio and media outlets, classical music organizations, and music software companies.
Theatre
The study of theatre is a fusion of performance, visual expression, design, text, theory, and history. In the Department of Theatre, students transform ideas, theories, and practices into performances in both laboratory and public venues.
