Olivia Nguyen DMSB'15

Olivia Nguyen DMSB'15, an International Business major with minors in International Affairs and Social Entrepreneurship, has won a Fulbright U.S. Student Award to serve as an English Teaching Assistant in Vietnam. Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships send recent graduates to countries around the world to help teach English and to serve as cultural ambassadors of the United States.

In her time at Northeastern, Olivia has volunteered at LIFT Roxbury, an advocacy program which supports disadvantaged individuals in areas of housing, education, and employment, as well as AmeriCorps Jumpstart, an intensive literacy program designed to improve the reading and writing skills of urban schoolchildren. She has also honed her teaching ability as a youth swim instructor for the YMCA. In addition to teaching English, she hopes to have the opportunity to give swimming lessons in Vietnam, where drowning is one of the leading causes of child mortality.

“I am excited to share the diversity of American culture with my students, while simultaneously exploring my Vietnamese heritage,” Olivia says. Following her year as a Fulbrighter, Olivia plans a career in the international business sector.
