Managing Sustainable Global Initiatives

Managing Sustainable Global Initiatives

Facing twice as much work than time – Understanding the people and the process?

The Managing Sustainable Global Initiatives is designed to engage professionals on multiple levels from interpersonal to professional, and from team to organizational perspectives. On the individual level, learners will participate in the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) self-assessment, developing insights into intercultural communication techniques and strategies. At the team level, professionals will gain practical skills based on theoretical concepts while applying the tools directly on a real-world project with a partner organization. Organizationally, participants will network with Toronto business leaders, discussing examples of how sustainable projects require key elements of project management and strong communication plans.

Working on interdisciplinary and global projects – Planning for sustainability?

In today’s global fast-paced world of work, professionals need flexible tools for projects to be sustainable in different cultures and contexts. According to Dr. Patty Goodman, Teaching Professor for Graduate Corporate and Organizational Communication, “The institute on Managing Sustainable Global Initiatives seeks to offer foundational tools, along with an opportunity to test them out.”

She adds: “This institute will incorporate a self-assessment, lectures, group discussion, and team projects. In addition, the faculty team will partner with an organization that manages global projects to develop case studies, which will serve as the basis for the application of knowledge and skills during the program. At the completion of the institute, participants will have acquired and implemented professional templates applicable to their current work environment.”

“The communication and management tools of the past fall short in our new global and culturally interconnected world.  Sustainability and global awareness now go hand-in-hand for initiatives that demand both ROI and societal impact.  We now see this phenomena across business, governmental and non-governmental organizations.” according to John G. LaBrie, Founding Principal of the Northeastern University Toronto campus. “This institute seeks to inform both process and product in a manner to create vibrant organizations which can thrive in our new economy.”
