Tome Barros joins the Center for the Study of Sport in Society with a wealth of both domestic and international programmatic development experience. Most recently serving as a Director of the Train the Trainer program for NBA China, providing curriculum, skill development training as well as high-quality coaching to 2000+ coaches.
Prior to that Barros was the Basketball Operations Coordinator for the National Basketball Association (NBA) in Madrid, Spain responsible for collaborating with basketball federations and key stakeholders to grow the global game of basketball across Europe & the Middle East. Using sport as a vehicle to impact social change has been at the forefront of Tome’s work experience. In 2010, Tome was unanimously selected as the first ever recipient of the Shooting Touch Fellowship Program where he led the youth, coaches, and parents on what individual and community empowerment looks like, by building and refurbishing basketball courts in Brazil, Cape Verde, and Senegal.
Barros graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and is passionate about helping disenfranchised inner city youth to navigate their journey to replicate success for themselves and also to avoid the pitfalls they may face.
