CSDS’ Interfaith Community Service and Social Action Programs enable students of all faiths and secular traditions of conscience to engage in efforts to help build a better world, in Boston and beyond. CSDS works with its member student organizations, grassroots community partners, and local faith communities to design meaningful, substantive initiatives that advance community empowerment, justice, peace, and ecological sustainability. The programs highlight love, compassion, and interconnectedness as shared spiritual values across many religions. Service and social action program also articulate the myriad ways in which students through voluntarism express their love for Boston, discover the powerful expressions of love and justice in Boston communities, and bring their love and compassion from Boston across the nation and around the globe.
For several years, Northeastern participated in President Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Challenge, and for two years was recognized in the President’s Honor Roll. CSDS was invited to present our work at the President’s Interfaith and Community Service Challenge Gathering in Washington DC in Fall 2015 and 2016 with students and staff.
