Computational techniques in contact, friction, and adhesion present special challenges. While commercial finite element codes have improved in these areas, nonetheless these programs are often so computationally intensive as to be of limited value as general tools. The aim of this symposium is to present examples of the current state-of-the-art and identify future directions and needs for research in this area.
