Northeastern University’s buildOn Community Team is part of the international nonprofit buildOn, working to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations. BuildOn has service programs all across the United States and has built 1,000 schools in Haiti, Mali, Nicaragua, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Malawi, and Nepal!
Our Community Team spends time each month volunteering in Boston to give back and improve our community. We also partner with local high school students to complete projects while providing positive role models each week and building a meaningful relationship throughout the semester.
Throughout the academic year, we fundraise to send a group of our team abroad to build a school in areas that have historically had no adequate school structure. These schools work to increase gender equality, adult literacy, and access to education. Money is raised through fundraising events held on campus, donations to our page, and through the sale of fair trade and organic coffee harvested specifically for us in Nicaragua.
