Strong Password Policy Update

Many of you have received notice that your password was changed as of March 1, 2012.

In September of 2011 Northeastern University implemented a new Strong Password Policy. The community was notified of the requirement to validate their password strength and to pick a new strong password if necessary. This notice serves to inform you that according to our records your password strength has not yet been validated, and we request that you complete this before the end of business today. Weak passwords can lead to the compromise of both your personal financial records and sensitive University data and systems. This is an important part of Northeastern University’s ongoing efforts to enhance security and data protection.

Users who have not completed the required validation by March 1st 2012, will be forced to complete a password change, which may cause some service disruption with access to your Northeastern University accounts and computers. On March 1st 2012 your password will be changed and you will be required to complete the following password reset process:

1. Go to the myNEU portal
2. Click the “Forgot your password?” link
3. Click the “Forgot Password” link under “Faculty and Staff”
4. Enter your myNEU Username
5. Click the “Forgot Password?” link at the bottom of the page
6. Enter the answer to your challenge question(s)
7. Click “Login”
8. Enter a new password and confirm
9. Select “Change all resource accounts”
10. Click “Change Password”

IMPORTANT: MOBILE DEVICES

Your NEW password must be updated in your personal and work-related mobile devices for your email and wireless connections to function properly. See the Northeastern University Help web pages for details on your specific devices.

If you have any questions or concerns about either the requirements, or the process of validating your password strength, please contact the Office of Information & Technology Security at x7901, the Office of Risk Compliance at x5893 or the NUHelpDesk at x4357.
