Currently, Werner Kaufmann is the Senior Manager at Technology Scouting, responsible within BASF Corporation for the design, implementation and operation of the North American Scouting Network, which includes more than 50 scouts within the region. In this function, Werner created the first BASF-wide overview of unmet needs, which has been shared with external partners globally.
Werner has a doctorate in Chemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). This was under the direction of Prof. L.M. Venanzi; it on the coordination chemistry of trans-Platinum(II) compounds. After completing his studies, Werner joined Ciba-Geigy in Switzerland in 1988. He has held various positions in Process Development, Production, Research & Development and New Business Development in Switzerland, Germany and the U.S.
Prior to BASF’s acquisition of Ciba in 2009, Werner had global responsibility for Ciba’s Emerging Competencies organization and was also Head of R&D for Ciba North America. In addition, he managed Ciba’s venturing activities.
