Joseph Ferraro is a Senior Principal Communications Engineer and a department head in the Cyber Solutions Technical Center at The MITRE Corporation. MITRE is a not-for-profit company working in the public interest to provide systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the federal government. Joe manages the Trust and Assurance Cyber Technologies Department within MITRE’s Center for Programs and Technology. He is responsible for department leadership, strategic direction, capability development, technical quality, staffing and fiscal administration. He was one of the MITRE staffers instrumental in developing real-world training exercises for teaching embedded security concepts to interns. Two groups of interns competed in a head-to-head contest during an Embedded CTF competition (embedded systems capture the flag).
Since joining MITRE in 1999, Joe has held numerous positions spanning management, technical leadership and individual contributions. Joe applies expertise in embedded security, cybersecurity, cyber infrastructure and networking, communications, NetOps and systems engineering to address complex national challenges and has served as a subject matter expert on many technical work programs. He has received numerous awards for his work at MITRE.
Joe holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Northeastern University, and a master of science in electrical engineering with focus on communications and digital signal processing, also from Northeastern. Since 2008, he has been a member of the university’s ECE Industrial Advisory Board.
