As Principal of Boston Device Development, Derek is responsible for technical leadership, program management, and new business development. Some of his recent work includes a handheld Raman spectrometer device, a novel CPAP therapeutic device for sleep apnea, and an educational robot.
Prior to joining Boston Device Development, Derek held engineering and management roles at Ximedica, Emo Labs (a venture-backed audio technology company), Continuum, and Boston Acoustics, where he worked on a range of projects for consumer, medical, and industrial market. From DNA analyzers to diapers, gas-grills to nasogastric feeding tubes, Derek has brought over sixty products from concept to fruition.
In addition to Derek’s professional experience, he serves as a mentor and judge for MIT’s $100k Entrepreneurial Competition, NEU’s RISE event, and startups everywhere.
Derek holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Manufacturing Engineering from Boston University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. During Derek’s time at MIT, he focused on entrepreneurship and marketing strategy.
