Dean Phelps is an authority on patent prosecution in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and material sciences.

Dean has experience monitoring global patent portfolios, conducting freedom to operate searches, and providing advice on product manufacturing, drug development, automation, and formulation techniques.

Before practicing patent law, Dean was a scientist developing new technologies at two major pharmaceutical companies. Dean helped implement new technologies for analysis of small molecules, proteins and alginates, and formulations. Examples of the new technologies Dean helped implement are polarized light infrared and microscopy techniques, Raman spectroscopy, particle size and shape analysis, final product defect analysis, and computer predictions of chemical properties using quantum mechanics and Linux software. Dean also has experience with new analytical technologies for small molecules, proteins, polymers, high-throughput chemistry, mass spectrometry, robotics, high-throughput microscopy, vibrational circular dichroism, and optical rotatory dispersion. In 2014, he received the certification to be a USPTO Registered Patent Attorney, #72870.
