Dave Thurman joined Northeastern University in November 2018 as Dean & CEO of the Seattle Regional Campus after more than twenty-five years with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, most recently as Director of their Seattle Research Center. He held a variety of technical and organizational leadership positions at PNNL over his career, largely in the data analytics and cybersecurity arena. At PNNL he was responsible for leading the development of a technical research agenda in computing, building nationwide partnerships in cybersecurity, and federal program development activities in cybersecurity and data analytics. He also led regional engagement efforts to integrate PNNL research into the Seattle tech ecosystem. His early career focused on applied software engineering, research into the impacts of automation technologies, and the design of human-centered data analytics systems. He remains interested in research topics ranging from large-scale software systems, to information visualization, to user-centered design. Thurman holds a master’s degree in human-machine systems engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and computer & information science from the University of Oregon. He is a member of both IEEE and ACM.
