Spring ’15 Wrap-Up

Despite a winter that threatened to bury the entire city of Boston, like a snowplow the Northeastern Maddogs drove their way through an impressive Spring season with remarkable results from the numerous 7’s and XV challenges they faced.
Despite limited time and even more limited snow-free fields in Boston, February saw the Dawgz pick up some new hardware as they won the Bowl at the annual Atlantic Coast Rugby Sevens Tournament in Raleigh, NC, beating hometown hosts NC State 19-0 in the final match.
April brought challenges that would feature the skills of both the Dawgz’ XV and 7’s sides, including an intense double-header weekend. That Saturday, the Maddogs took on BC in a friendly XV match that resulted in a 22-0 win, and the very next day the Dawgz 7’s side entered into the Armory Collegiate Sevens Tournament at AIC. Despite tough play on a scorcher of a day, NU fell to host AIC in the semifinal round, 30-5. Later in April, the Maddog XV went down to Rhode Island to play in the annual Beast of the East Tournament, and while the boys didn’t leave with trophies, it was a solid cap to the Spring season and a valuable opportunity to play with the graduating seniors one last time.
Now the Maddogs are in training, preparing for the upcoming Fall season. Many challenges lie ahead for Northeastern, including ECRC newcomers New England College and Fairfield University, but there is a resounding feeling of confidence in the ranks that the Fall ’15 season will be one of the best yet.
