Henniker, NH: The dogs lost a tough battle to New England College in a defensive oriented 9-5 battle. Even though the dogs dominated set pieces and were close to scoring plenty of times, they were unable to put any tries in until it was too little too late. NU came out in the first half firing, but a missed penalty conversion from Ryan Crowe left them without any points to show for their efforts.
NEC rallied back with two penalty conversions to make it 6-0 at halftime. The second half was a similar tale to the first, with the dogs pushing and punishing the NEC defense, but to no avail as they failed were pushed away from the try zone again and again. NEC hit a 40 meter penalty conversion to make it 9-0 with 8 minutes to go, and Sean McElhinney scored at the death to make it 9-5. The dogs had one final push in them, but NEC regained possession and kicked it out of bounds to hold on for the win. This puts NEC at 1-1 for the season and NU at 0-1. Matt Larouche was named Man of the Match for his aggressive runs and stalwart defense.
The B-side game had more action, as both teams had enough of defensive stalemate and decided to go on the attack. John Berrigan and Ethan Flynn put in tries and had NU jump out to a 12-3 early lead. After NEC grabbed a try back, Max Brits put one down in the corner to make it 17-10 NU at the half. Unfortunately the second half was all NEC, as they put in 4 tries to Northeastern’s 0 in the second half to make the final score 32-17. B side Man of the Match was Sam Gerber.
