Northeastern hit the ground running in their home opener against the University of Rhode Island. Will Yorke scored the first try for the Maddogs, followed immediately by rookie Nicholas Hudson’s try. One conversion made by Darren Chan, gave the Maddogs a growing lead on URI at 12-0. After missing their first, URI’s second penalty kick went through, making the game 12-3. Northeastern’s Sam Moyle scored an excellent breakaway try, and the kick was converted by Darren Chan to extend the lead to 19-3. Moyle went in for a second time, this time with an unconverted kick, making the score 24-3. Coulson Wiggan tacked on even more points for the Maddogs, scoring again to make the game 29-3. Just a few minutes later, Rhett Dawson outpaced several URI defenders to get another try, kick converted by Darren Chan. The score again rose, this time to 43-3, as Alex Parciak added a try himself and Darren Chan made the kick. Matt Urea shook several URI players by himself to add yet another try for the Maddogs, making the score 48-3. Then, Nicholas Hudson after made a clean run down the sideline into open space to grab himself a second try on the day, kick converted by David Luzuriaga 55-3. Rookie Sam Sagherian gets his own first try for the Maddogs as he brutes his way into the try zone, with the kick converted by David Luzuriaga, sealing the deal at 62-3.
