Rad/Self Defense

What is the RAD System?

  • The R.A.D. System of defense will provide both men and women of all ages with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance, on the premise that a spontaneous violent attack will stimulate a natural desire to resist on the part of the victim.
  • The program is taught by Police Officers who are trained and certified R.A.D. instructors. Officers educate participants about the “Fight or Flight” response.
  • Additionally, as part of our comprehensive program you will be provided with a copy of the R.A.D. reference manual. This manual outlines the entire physical defense program for review and continuous personal growth.
  • Our officers also offer SAFE classes, which are a condensed version of the RAD program.

Classes are scheduled quarterly, and special classes can be arranged for groups by contacting the N.U. Police Department or by submitting the form below, Monday through Friday 8:30AM-4:00PM, at 617.373.3940 or 617.373.5402.

  • Class is open to all N.U. affiliated men and women (students, faculty and staff) on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All participants must be 18 years of age.
  • All participants may register via email to r.jolliffe@northeastern.edu, OR, in person at N.U. Police Headquarters located at 716 Columbus Avenue between the hours of 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
