Holiday Decorations in University Buildings and Residence Halls
With the holiday season here, I wish to take this opportunity to remind all members of the University community of the safety regulations concerning the display of decorations in our office buildings, residence halls, and other facilities.
Fire Safety regulations prohibit the display of decorations in elevators, stairwells, hallways, or other common areas. Real evergreens or other natural decorations such as laurel, holly, straw, etc, and lighted candles are not allowed. Certain flame resistant decorative material will be permitted in lobbies and other open areas, provided they are approved in advance by our Fire Safety Office.
Your cooperation in monitoring compliance with these guidelines in areas under your control, and in making sure that exit ways and other passageways are not obstructed, will contribute greatly in our efforts to ensure a safe and happy holiday season for our students, faculty, and staff.
Please feel free to contact me via e-mail at P.Rizzi@Northeastern.NEU or call the Fire Safety Office at extension 2696 with any questions. On behalf of all the members of the Public Safety Division, I wish you a safe and joyous holiday season.
