“So, who are you wearing?” It’s a question that punctuates every Oscars red-carpet interview. Actress Missi Pyle’s answer at this year’s Academy Awards? Valentina Delfino.

Northeastern alumna Valentina Delfino, that is.

For years, Delfino, BA’10, a native of Venezuela, had longed to be the answer to fashion’s most important question. The dream came true when Pyle, of Best Picture The Artist, chose Delfino’s sustainable dress design over hundreds of others in the fourth annual international Red Carpet Green Dress competition.

The dress, made of organic chiffon with a recycled polyester lining, was fabricated by Emmy Award-winning costumer Birgit Mueller. Delfino got to travel to Los Angeles to help with Pyle’s fitting.

When the young design star entered the competition, she didn’t know who she was designing for, but that didn’t matter: The dress, with pleats designed to create an elegant silhouette, was created to look great on any woman, she says. And it made more than a fashion statement.

In December, Delfino will graduate with a master’s in fashion from Miami International University of Art and Design, on her way, she hopes, to Madison Avenue.
