I was fortunate to provide brief remarks at yesterday’s White House Symposium on Innovation in Higher Education. Below is the charge I gave attendees encouraging them to help us inspire others to reimagine higher education:
Thank you to the White House, Department of Education, and IDEO, for the opportunity to participate in today’s Symposium. It was an inspiring day as we have exciting opportunities to innovate in higher education and the privilege to make those ideas a reality.
That privilege comes with responsibility. Let’s honor the White House and Department’s commitment to innovation by not only “sprinting through the tape” as requested by the President, but also remembering that achieving equity in education will require a marathon of sprints.
The ecosystem work is bigger than any of us or our institutions; and the best ideas are likely to come from outside this room. We must go back to our campuses and companies and inspire others to believe that they are not only stakeholders in education, but are also change agents.
I encourage you to also bring this conversation home with you over Thanksgiving and the holidays. Our roles as educators are more important than ever. I hope you will join us in recruiting the largest and most diverse number of ideas in OpenIDEO challenge history.
Level Education from Northeastern University is committed to seeing the top ideas come to fruition. To catalyze this, we are providing top idea winners with an “idea to MVP” Level entrepreneurship bootcamp.
