Discussions that Work: Engaging Structures and Practical Facilitation Moves

Research demonstrates many ways that discussion improves learning, and most of us use some form of discussion in our classes. But sometimes a discussion does not get off the ground or falls flat, and we find ourselves looking for options and strategies. Participants in this session will experience different discussion structures and reflect upon when and how to use them best. Practical, in-the-moment facilitation approaches will be a constant focus throughout the workshop, and we will use concrete teaching scenarios to consider how best to facilitate through challenging situations. Lunch will be provided.
