Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey ’98 will deliver the School of Law’s commencement address and receive an honorary degree on May 22, 2015. Sworn in to office on January 21, 2015, Healey previously helped lead the Attorney General’s Office as head of the Civil Rights Division and as chief of the Public Protection and Business & Labor Bureaus. Healey was the architect of the state's successful challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which she argued and won twice in federal court before the Supreme Court finally struck it down. Healey will join university leaders, faculty, staff, family and friends in celebrating the Class of 2015 at commencement, which will begin at 1 p.m in Matthews Arena, and will be streamed live here

"We are proud that our commonwealth's citizens have chosen Attorney General Healey to serve as our chief lawyer and law enforcement officer, and grateful that she has accepted our invitation to share her experiences with our commencement audience,” said Dean Jeremy Paul, who will preside over the ceremony.

Professor Daniel Medwed will deliver the faculty address. Commencement will also feature two JD student speakers — Kenneth Kaufman and Emma Hunter — and one LLM student speaker, Ernest Nwachan.
