Deborah Ramirez12.9.14 —  Professor Deborah Ramirez is among the bipartisan mix of professionals selected to advise Massachusetts Governor-elect Charlie Baker on key policy issues as his adminsitration prepares to take office. Baker’s transition team is divided in to seven different committees that will be overseen by Lieutenant Governor-elect Karyn Polito. Ramirez will serve on the Safer, Stronger Communities Transition group, which will develop a set of focused, action-oriented recommendations.   

"The transition leaders will be vital to our efforts in assembling the best possible team to carry out the administration's goal: making Massachusetts great everywhere," Polito said in a statement.

Ramirez is a criminal law expert who has spearheaded counter-terrorism initiatives by combatting racial profiling that too often  alienates communities that could potentially serve as important partners for law enforcemen. She has testifed before Congress and helped forge critical partnerships that focus on building mutual trust and cooperation. She is the founder of Justice Bridge, a post-graduate incubator for recent law graduates who are providing legal representation for clients of modest means. Among her many honors, Ramirez recently received the Servant of Justice Award from South Coast Counties Legal Services for bridging “intractable unmet legal needs with the availability of talented new attorneys who are just starting up their practices.”
