As of December 2016, all Northeastern SharePoint sites have been migrated to Office 365.

This means that SharePoint, Outlook Mail & Calendar, OneDrive, and more, are all now available in one place – in the O365 cloud. Moving to SharePoint to O365 allows for tighter integration with many Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and continual updating of the platform so users can take advantage of the latest technologies.

As part of the integration with other O365 applications, end users have the ability to edit and view their files directly in the browser from within SharePoint and changes are saved automatically. Additionally, it’s now easier and faster to find files, as the Search feature in SharePoint provides a preview of the document or item in the list of results.

In addition to providing an easy to manage collaboration space for a department or team, there are many other benefits to using SharePoint. SharePoint can be used to build a simple or complex system to automate tedious or inefficient tasks, streamline business process and track the status of an item such as a contract.
