Northeastern University–Toronto is the institution’s first international campus and the first comprehensive research university to receive approval by the Ontario government to offer multiple degree programs in the province without a local educational partner. Those degree programs are tailored to Toronto’s economic development needs, and delivered in formats flexible to today’s working professional.
Toronto’s Job Market
Toronto is known as Canada’s “high-tech hub.” The more than 14,600 technology companies employ approximately 159,000 professionals, according to the City of Toronto. LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, and Twitter have established offices in Toronto—also known as Canada’s largest center for venture capital investment.
Medical devices and equipment and biotech software and information services are two of the largest industries attracting those venture capital dollars. Measuring, medical, and controlling devices is Toronto’s top manufacturing subsector, with 165 firms.
The City of Toronto reports it’s “taking a leadership role in the digital world with respect to consumer privacy.” Michael Brown, CEO at Symantec, a leading cybersecurity software company with an office in Toronto, told CSO that the cybersecurity industry is expected to experience a projected shortfall of 1.5 million professionals globally by 2019.
Northeastern University–Toronto’s master’s degree programs in informatics; analytics; project management; and regulatory affairs for drugs, biologics, and medical devices are aligned to local industry and designed to prepare professionals for roles in these fast-growing fields.
