Silicon Valley—home to some of the world’s most innovative companies—is where Northeastern is establishing an innovative, new model of education. Northeastern University–Silicon Valley is the first in a series of educational hubs embedded directly in select Bay Area companies, serving as both an incubator for top talent and bridge to the region’s corporate and startup communities.
Silicon Valley’s Job Market
Silicon Valley created more than 64,000 jobs in 2015, according to the 2016 Silicon Valley Index, bringing the region’s total to 1.55 million.
Innovation and entrepreneurship represent major drivers of economic growth—Google, Apple, and Facebook alone help highlight the region’s strength. But patent registrations also continue to rise, surpassing 19,000 in 2014. In the same year, more than 33 percent of California’s venture capital deals and 38 percent of the state’s angel investments occurred in Silicon Valley—spurring new job opportunities and increasing the region’s competitive advantage.
Northeastern University–Silicon Valley is training professionals to fulfill roles within the region’s growing innovation economy, by offering graduate programs in business, leadership and management, and science and technology.
Partnering with a Leader
Northeastern University–Silicon Valley is co-located on the San Jose campus of Integrated Device Technology (IDT), an industry leader in semiconductor solutions. The partnership provides STEM professionals at the company, and throughout the region, access to educational programs designed to enhance their skills and advance their careers. The hub’s convenient location also facilitates research partnerships that further fuel the Bay Area’s innovation economy.
