SUMMER SCHOLARSHIP
Why is the tuition for my summer course posting to my account if I was approved for the summer scholarship?
It can take a few weeks for the scholarship to be applied to your account. If you were approved for the scholarship, it will be applied to your account at a later date.

When will my summer scholarship course start?
- The Summer II term for all colleges except College of Professional Studies (CPS) and School of Law (SOL) will begin Monday, June 29, 2020
- CPS – begins Monday, July 6, 2020
- SOL – begins Tuesday, May 26, 2020

EARLY ACCESS TO YOUR COURSEWORK
How will this affect my fall enrollment or start?
You will be able to continue your enrollment in the fall after enrolling in the summer term course.
Will the course in summer be part of my degree program?
Yes, the summer course and credits earned will be part of your degree program.
*Please note: The Khoury College Align bridge courses are not designed to be taught in a compressed, seven-week semester. Instead of a for-credit course, we will develop programming over the summer to engage students with members of the administration, faculty, staff and student body. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
Can I choose any available course in the summer to register?
Course offerings for the summer scholarship were individually determined by each college’s academic leadership. If you registered for a summer course scholarship, your college has now posted your available course. You can see the list here before you register.
Will I receive course credits for the summer course?
Yes. The summer course offered as part of this scholarship are credit-bearing and will be part of your required courses for your desired degree program. You will be able transfer your course to your fall term degree program enrollment.
If I drop the summer course after I start, will this affect my grade?
You may drop your summer term course per each college’s add/drop period guidelines. However, you may lose your ability to take advantage of the summer term scholarship.
How will my enrollment in my summer course impact future OPT?
In general, enrolling in the summer course online while you are at your home county will not impact your future OPT eligibility. The OGS website contains valuable information about OPT eligibility.
If I was already accepted and expecting to start in fall, how do I switch to summer start?
The Summer Scholarship course offered allows you to enroll in the course for the summer term. Your program start date on your I-20 will remain unchanged. For more information, contact our Enrollment Coaching Team at +1.617.373.6121.
Is my summer course scholarship/value transferable?
The Summer Scholarship only applies to a summer term start. You will need to complete your summer course to ensure that the scholarship fully applies to your account.
I have not taken the GRE. How can I start classes this summer?
You are welcome to start courses in the summer, but you will still need to provide GRE scores for the fall term. If you are interested in pursuing a special exception, please contact your program admissions office.
Is the summer term considered to be full-time enrollment?
Your summer term start is considered a single course enrollment before full-time enrollment in the fall term. You may start your enrollment for summer term with Northeastern by taking advantage of our Summer Scholarship, covering the full cost of one course, ensuring you can begin your academic career with us without delay.
I am concerned I will not receive my bachelor’s degree in time for a summer term enrollment due to my previous institution’s closure. How can I enroll in your institution?
We will accept a copy of your transcripts showing all courses up to the last semester and all other satisfying admissions requirements. When will I be able to start my on-ground classes?
Northeastern University is closely monitoring the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, and university leaders are making plans in accordance with public health authorities and international mobility experts. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and uninterrupted educational experience for our students, staff, faculty, and community. We will open on ground as soon as it is safe. How will starting my program online impact my ability to engage in CPT?
This online course will not change your CPT eligibility. You will still need to complete two semesters or three terms in the College of Professional Studies (CPS) on ground before you can engage in CPT.
I-20 and F-1 QUESTIONS
Will taking the summer course affect my I-20 process for the fall term?
No, taking courses during the summer term from your home country will not affect your I-20 process for the fall term. You will still be issued an I-20 for the fall that you will use to get a visa. My I-20 was approved, but the shipping is paused. What do I do?
As of 4/6/2020, all I-20s are being sent electronically for fall 2020 and beyond. Some students may have been sent paper ones previously. But you will be able to receive your I-20 electronically. You should print your I-20 with a high-resolution color printer to use during your travel. If you requested an EShip Global package, please track it for any alerts or delays. If shipping has been delayed 30 days or more, please contact the Office of Global Services.
What If I don’t get my F-1 visa for the fall term?
If you are unable to get your visa for the on-ground fall term, you may consider continuing as an online student, or you may re-apply for a visa to allow on-ground study. Please note that at this point, the fall on-ground term is not yet confirmed, as this is a continually evolving public health situation.
I am an international student with an F-1 from another institution in the United States. I will be transferring my SEVIS record to Northeastern for the fall program start date. Will I need to return to my country to start the summer term?
Transfer students have five months from the date of the SEVIS transfer to start their new program. You may remain in the United States and take the online class while you are waiting to start your program in the fall.

Why can’t I register for classes?
We are currently updating our system. You will be receiving further instructions from your college once you can register.
When should I connect with the college/program directly?

TAKING ONLINE COURSES
The time difference in my home country makes it difficult to participate in synchronous online instruction. Will my courses be recorded so I can watch them later?
Yes. Our academic teams carefully planned the class schedules with consideration for our global learners. Depending on the course, your faculty will make accommodations for any time zone challenges.
I have received my F1 visa but am not able to travel to the United States yet. Am I able to begin my online summer term courses from my home country?
If you are admitted to one of our U.S. locations (Seattle, Charlotte, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, or Boston), you may begin your summer term from your home country. You may travel to the U.S. as early as 30 days prior to the program start date listed on your I-20, when travel is safe.
