About

Ed Powers is Professor of Practice within the Master of Science in Corporate and Organizational Communication (MSCOC) program. He oversees the Public and Media Relations concentration, having developed its core curriculum, and teaches such courses as Introduction to Public Relations, Public Relations Writing Seminar 2, and Crisis Communication. Additional responsibilities include helping to build a new Leading Communication Strategy concentration, teaching the capstone course within the MSCOC program, and guiding part-time instructors as a master teacher.

Dr. Powers brings more than 25 years of industry experience in corporate communications to his role. His background includes having been Vice President of Corporate Communications at three billion dollar plus companies – National Grid USA, Sappi Fine Paper North America, and Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. In these positions, he was responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the companies' communications programs.

Earlier, Dr. Powers served as Director of Media Relations at Raytheon Company. Most recently, he was Department Head, Communications Products and Editorial Services at The MITRE Corporation, where he was responsible for key internal and external communications channels and writing and editing support for the company’s seven operating centers. He oversaw a team of 40 staff that won 10 professional awards between 2012 and 2017.
