Carlos Morales

Director R&D, Surgical Imaging Systems, Smith & Nephew

Carlos began his career as a technology entrepreneur, founding Axon Electro-Photonics, one of the first companies in the world focused on the development of machine vision products in the early 1990s. After succeeding in the international market and selling his company, Carlos switched to the medical devices industry, where he has worked for the last 20 years. From 2010 to 2019, Carlos led the development of artificial pancreas technology, which enables people living with diabetes to live a life without limits. Currently, Carlos serves as Director of R&D, Surgical Imaging Systems at Smith & Nephew, where he leads a multidisciplinary engineering team designing minimally invasive robotic surgery equipment. His academic training spans physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, systems engineering, and management of technology.
