Michael Bunis is an attorney with the firm of Choate, Hall and Stewart and co-chair of the firms Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Michael is a leading litigator with more than 20 years of experience representing technology and life sciences companies in high stakes litigation and other complex IP related disputes. He has been recognized by The Legal 500, Best Lawyers in America and as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer. Mr. Bunis is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Prior to joining Choate, Mr. Bunis was a Principal at Fish & Richardson in Boston. He previously held dual positions at Terra Lycos where he served as Deputy General Counsel and Global General Manager of Product Support Systems.
In addition to litigating complex patent and trade secret cases, Mr. Bunis counsels companies and private equity firms on all aspects of intellectual property from the litigation of disputes and the negotiation of complex licensing agreements to the acquisition of intangible assets. He also has extensive experience advising companies and investors on the risks associated with intellectual property securitization and other forms of IP-related structured finance.
A frequent speaker at professional conferences, Mr. Bunis has written extensively on intellectual property and was an adjunct faculty member of the Boston University School of Law. Mr. Bunis regularly lectures on IP issues at Northeastern University’s Bernard M. Gordon Engineering Leadership Program.
Mr. Bunis received his JD, magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law in 1994 and his BA from the University of Vermont in 1989. He served as the first judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nancy Gertner, United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York.
