Orientation Day for 2016-2017 Gordon Fellow Candidates
September 6, 2016
The Faculty and Staff at the Gordon Institute of Engineering Leadership welcomes Cohort 10 to the Gordon Engineering Leadership Program! This new group of Gordon Fellow Candidates is made up of engineering professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences across a range of industries.
Orientation took place on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016, at the Stearns Center on the Northeastern Campus. Program Director Simon Pitts, Faculty Members Steve Klosterman, Steve McGonagle, and Dr. Christos Zahopoulos, and Staff Members Deanna Beirne, Kristin Hicks, Amy Manley, Barbara Matteson, and Marlys Vaughan all presented to the Gordon Candidates. A range of topics were covered to inform Gordon Fellow Candidates of all the key features of the program and logistics to make the academic year a success.
Orientation Day was also a great opportunity for Gordon Fellow Candidates to mingle and get to know each other. It included a competitive team activity that took students around campus looking for clues and figuring out solutions, all while managing time constraints and adhering to other activity rules. It was an opportunity to test their leadership capabilities, communication styles, listening skills, and decision-making processes—just some of the overarching themes that will be further developed during their engineering leadership studies at the Gordon Institute.
The Gordon Engineering Leadership Program is an award-winning, transformational yearlong program for engineering professionals. Gordon Fellow Candidates pursue the Gordon Engineering Leadership Program as part of their graduate studies in a range of engineering disciplines at Northeastern University or as an independent Graduate Certificate in Engineering Leadership. The diversity of engineering professionals not only allows them a unique networking opportunity, but also the ability to work cross-functionally and understand the big picture facing teams and organizations.
