"The United Nations Association of the United Kingdom (UNA-UK) published their Climate 2020 report in November 2018. António Guterres, the current UN Secretary General, in his article wrote: "Climate change is running faster than we are ... We risk irreversible catastrophe if we don’t act more quickly and with more ambition." In our article, our Northeastern SDS Lab, along with our collaborators at NASA, Minnesota and Boston-based climate startup (and SDS Lab spinout) risQ, we attempted to describe potential solutions ranging from urban risk management to infrastructural resilience and financial incentives. Understanding climate science and translating to adaptation (“managing the unavoidable”) and mitigation (“avoiding the unmanageable”) are not easy, thus solutions need to be designed with care with due considerations of the desired and unintended outcomes as well as societal tradeoffs."
