The Office of External Affairs marshals a range of expertise to elevate Northeastern’s reputation and advance its public policy and research agenda. Our approach is collaborative and strategic with the goal of positioning Northeastern as a global research university powered by experience and an innovator in higher education on the world stage.


We handle all media inquiries and public relations for the university, with a strong track record of getting the Northeastern story told by the top media outlets. We also run Northeastern’s digital newsroom, which publishes News@Northeastern, the university’s official news source with a team of journalists dedicated to covering the many ways our faculty, students, and alumni are driving change around the world.

Government Relations

We focus on advancing the university’s research agenda and on shaping policy that affects our students, faculty, and staff. We advocate for federal research funding, promote our faculty’s expertise among members of Congress and our nation’s funding agencies, facilitate new global research partnerships, and serve as Northeastern’s official liaison on policy issues.


We set and oversee the brand standards for the university, including graphic identity, web design and experience, editorial guidelines, and merchandise licensing. We create and run strategic marketing campaigns aligned with Northeastern’s priorities, and partner with various university colleagues on message positioning, content strategy, and marketing objectives and tactics. The goal: to create a unified brand experience across all audiences and channels.
