SEI: Spotlight

“Come hear from two different perspectives of social enterprise at Northeastern and how you can get involved! 

Katie Powers will be speaking about her previous co-op at Kiva, an online microfinance crowdfunding platform that helps alleviate poverty by empowering entrepreneurship. Kiva helps to financially excluded populations access capital to grow their businesses. Katie worked on the Kiva US Team with borrowers from around the country. She is working with her colleagues, Ale Pena and Somya Thakker, to increase Kiva’s presence in Boston and to support entrepreneurs locally.

Hannah Muthoot will be speaking about her experience at a non-profit childcare center in Pune, India that educates the children of women working in the nearby red light district. Hannah has a deep commitment to ehancing the organization’s sustainability and impact by integrating social entrepreneurship practices into its model. Hannah’s story is incredibly inspiring and she is looking for students to work with her to improve the lives of hundreds of children and their mothers.
