Parent Giving and Engagement
The Parent Support Community
Parents of Northeastern students past and present know what a Northeastern education can mean in a young person’s life. As the Empower campaign gathers momentum, parents’ philanthropic support for Northeastern will also grow—and become increasingly influential. Such gifts touch the lives of current and future students by transforming their academic, athletic, cultural, and professional experiences.
Since 2010, non-alumni parents have contributed nearly $5 million for a wide variety of needs, including academic-program support, club sports, unpaid co-ops within government agencies and at nonprofit organizations, and support of research and international experiential learning. Giving opportunities include:
Scholarships are a top priority in the Empower campaign, essential for bringing the most qualified and deserving students to Northeastern.
Parents may direct their gift toward a specific university need that closely matches their interests. For example, Pieter and Yvette Eenkema van Dijk, PNT’14, endowed a professional coaching position for the Sailing Club in December 2012 with a gift of $750,000. They are the first non-alumni parents to establish an endowment fund at Northeastern.
Parents can jumpstart or help sustain a host of innovative student and faculty-led programs, in any of nine schools and colleges.

Family Fellows Program
The Family Fellows Program was created as a way for the university to recognize the generous support of our most loyal parent donors who are dedicated to preserving Northeastern’s past and safeguarding its future. Family Fellows participation begins with an annual investment of $10,000 or more and can be designated to any area of the university that means the most to you and your family. By making an annual Fellow’s level gift to Northeastern, you ensure that the vital work of the university and its graduates not only continues, but enhances the experiences of all of our students.
As a Northeastern Family Fellow you will:
- Join your philanthropic peers in intimate gatherings with Northeastern’s top leadership
- Witness the real-time impact of your philanthropy on Northeastern students
- Motivate others to join through the power of your philanthropic example
We hope you will consider joining this dynamic group of parents. For more information on the Family Fellows Program, please review the Family Fellows brochure or contact Sandra Butters, director of parent giving programs, at 617.373.7110 or email@example.com.
The Parents Fund
The Parents Fund is an annual fund, meaning that contributions are spent in the year they are received and that their purpose is unrestricted. Such gifts are directed by university leaders to areas of greatest need and importance. However, parents may choose to direct their Parent Fund gift to their child’s academic program, sports team, or other specific purpose that is especially meaningful to them.
Gifts to the Parents Fund support vital aspects of the undergraduate program, including scholarships, academic programmatic innovations, co-op, cultural activities, and residential life. Together, these facets of a Northeastern education make the student experience distinctive and deeply enriching.
In addition to providing crucial financial support, all parents can take advantage of opportunities to become further engaged with Northeastern. For example, parents may:
- Sponsor a co-op opportunity at their place of business, accept an invitation to speak at one of our classes, or serve on a panel of experts.
- Provide a service or product that enhances an academic or athletic program.
- Host an accepted student send-off party or parent engagement reception.
- Join the Parents Leadership Council! We need your help as we endeavor to empower all our talented young students and prepare them for a lifetime of achievement and fulfillment. For more information, visit our webpage or email the Parents Leadership Council at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please consider how your time, talents, and treasure align with our mission, and share your ideas.
