How To: Download and install the VMware Horizon Client on your Windows computer

From a web browser, go to

At the login screen enter your myNEU student username and password.

You will see the Download Clients pop-up with a link to Download VMware Horizon Client.

By clicking on the download, you will get a list of various options to match your computer’s operating system.

Faculty and staff should note that most Northeastern-imaged Windows computers are 64-bit computers.

Select the appropriate item.

Once you make your selection, you will see Product Details and a Download button.

Clicking on the Download button will bring you to the Welcome screen for the VMware Horizon Client Setup Wizard.  Click Next.

Accept the End User License Agreement and click Next.

Select IPv4 in the Advanced settings window and click Next.


Be sure the VMware Horizon Client is selected (blue highlighted line below) in the tree so all features are installed. Click Next.

In the Default Server window type in as the default connection server. Click Next.
In the Enhanced Single Sign On window, be sure to check Show in Options menu. Click Next.

In the Configure Shortcuts window, select both Desktop and Start Menu Programs Folder. Click Next.

Once you have made all your selections, click the install button.


When you see the screen telling you that you have completed the installation, click finish.  Restart your computer.

When you start your computer again, the icon will appear.  Click on it to see the software available to you.

Upon launch you will be presented with a message requesting to “Sharing”; select Allow to proceed. It will enable sharing of your “Home Folder” with the appcloud environment.


Select Open to continue.


If you entered the server name previously, it will appear in the Connection Server box.  If you did not enter the server name previously, enter when you are asked to enter the connection server name.


Then enter your myNEU username and password. As in the example below, you will see icons for the software titles available to you as selected by your instructor.


Select Options in the upper-left of the screen and choose Shared Folders.


Select the Sharing tab, use the “+” button beneath the text field to add a folder to the list.  The first folder you will see is your Documents folder.

Select Add in the lower-right of the window.  Once this is complete, you will be able to save and open files in your computer’s Documents folder from any virtualized application using the VMware Horizon Client.
