The Boston Area Research Initiative is now accepting proposals for talks for its spring conference, The Smart, Connected Commonwealth: Data-Driven Research and Policy across the Region, to be held on April 26th, 2019.

Much has been made of how digital data and technology will transform major metropolises such as Boston. But the challenges and opportunities facing society in the 21st century are not isolated to urban cores. They instead operate at a regional scale—inequality and segregation, transportation, the opioid epidemic, housing, climate change, and gentrification, to name a few.
The Smart, Connected Commonwealth: Data-Driven Research and Policy across the Region will explore how researchers and practitioners can move beyond the individual municipality, supporting governments across the region working to solve problems collaboratively. BARI’s 2019 Spring Conference will bring together academics, policy makers, and practitioners to highlight work being conducted throughout Greater Boston as a way to share insights and methods, catalyzing inter-disciplinary, intercity collaboration in the use of data and technology.
We are inviting representatives from the academic, public, private, and non-profit sectors, to submit proposals for talks describing data-driven work occurring throughout Greater Boston. In keeping with our theme of Data-Driven Research and Policy across the Region, we are encouraging talks on topics with regional salience, including but not limited to: housing; transportation; public health; climate change; inequality and segregation; public safety and law enforcement; and access to resources, amenities, and services. We are also encouraging talks on how data-driven policy and models of cross-sector collaboration can drive multi-city collaboration and address regional challenges.
Proposals will be for a 10-minute talk, and will describe one of the following:
Proposals will be accepted until Friday, January 18th, at 11:59 PM. Applicants will be notified in early February if their proposals have been accepted.
