Suzanna Walters, Jennie Stevens, and Brooke Foucault-Welles make up a team of WGSS Executive Board members who were just awarded the Global Resiliency Institute seed-grant for their research. The team is one of eleven across the University, all working across disciplines to study the topic of ‘resilience’. The WGSS team’s project focuses on the roles of women in establishing community resilience. Research is focused on groups of women that have responded to societal problems or threats. Such groups being studies include: Mothers Out Front, Moms Demand Action, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Mothers of the Movement, and the Women’s Movement.
The study aims to delve into community-level resilience structures, and to study groups, namely women, that have previously been overlooked in such studies. The team’s research is slated to be presented at the 2019 Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Symposium.
Until then, WGSS wishes best of luck to the research team, and looks forward to the presentation of their research!
