Brooke Foucault-Welles wins Excellence in Teaching award

Northeastern held the annual Academic Honors Convocation on April 20 to honor students, faculty, and staff for outstanding achievements over the last academic year. Communications professor and WGSS Executive Committee member Brooke Foucault-Welles won an Excellence in Teaching award, having been nominated by her students. Foucault-Welles said that during the course of her research on networks, she has taken advantage of the professional networks Northeastern has to offer.

“I recently signed a contract with MIT Press to write a book about ‘hashtag activism,'” Foucault-Welles said. “The book is an innovative project that brings together multiple disciplinary perspectives and speaks across academic and activist audiences. The project was only possible thanks to an ongoing collaboration with two of my Northeastern colleagues, professors Sarah Jackson and Moya Bailey.”

Foucault-Welles mentioned that she first met Jackson and Bailey (also WGSS Executive Committee members) at an event hosted by the program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Read Northeastern News’ coverage here or watch a recording of the event here.
