Thinking of applying to one of our CSSH graduate programs?? It pays to plan ahead and visit CSSH!
Effective December 6, 2016, if you attend a CSSH Open House or Welcome Day, or meet with a Northeastern University staff or faculty member through a graduate program recruitment event, and then apply to a CSSH graduate program, we will waive your application fee. Under the “Affiliation to Northeastern University” section of the application, please enter the name of the staff or faculty member you met with. Important: When you submit your application, you MUST select “Pay by Check” and email us at email@example.com to request that we waive the fee. Please again note who you met with and where in your email request. It pays to plan ahead as we will not refund fees already paid.
The following links will give you information regarding deadlines and required documents for admission consideration into our graduate programs. We are looking for students who are of outstanding academic caliber that we feel have compatible research and/or professional interests with our department.
Ready to join our graduate program? Apply today using the ApplyYourself online system.
For questions about admissions, please contact the Graduate Office of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at firstname.lastname@example.org or 617.373.5990. Please do not mail or e-mail materials to the Department of Political Science. Submit all application materials, including letters of recommendation, via the online system.
All questions related to your application for admission should be directed to our Graduate Office. They can answer questions regarding missing documentation, deadlines, and admission decisions.
No, students who apply to the PhD program who do not have prior relevant Master’s degrees will automatically be considered for admission to the MA program if they are not admitted to the PhD program.
Yes, students currently in the MA or MPA programs at Northeastern also must formally apply for admission to the doctoral program. Admission is not guaranteed. Applicants seeking admission to the doctoral program who are currently enrolled in one of our Master’s programs must start the process by submitting the following: Internal Admission Application Notification Form.
The program does not set a formal minimum requirement for the GRE, but it must be noted that applicants scoring below the 50th percentile will be at a competitive disadvantage. We would however not dissuade anyone from applying based on GRE scores alone.
It is expected that applicants to the doctoral program will have earned a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0, or its equivalent. Master’s level applicants should have an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher or its equivalent. We will review any applicant to one of our programs, but it is rare for us to admit anyone who does not meet the above criteria.
Tuition costs can be found at the Student Financial Services website.
We typically admit 4-6 students into our PhD program each fall. For our MA in Political Science we are looking to recruit a class of 30+ students each year.
PhD application decisions are made in February.
We begin making decisions on MA applicants for the fall semester in February – March. Application decisions will be made on a rolling basis through the August 1 application deadline.
