As of October 1, 2016, the National Interpreter Education Center (NIEC) is no longer funded. Although this page remains open, it is without staff support. We thank you for your support throughout the years and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The National Interpreter Education Center (NIEC) is one of six centers comprising the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC). Funded by The Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration, the NIEC seeks to improve interpreter education outcomes, coordinate the efforts of the NCIEC and engage in meaningful evaluation.

It also serves to coordinate cross-center collaborative activities, dissemination, communication, and knowledge transfer; evaluates the effectiveness of Centers’ educational offerings; and provides educational opportunities, resources, and technical assistance to enhance teaching practices across the U.S.

It offers a lively program of monthly webinars on salient topics related to interpreter education. Furthermore, it has been deeply involved in the development of the online repository Teaching Interpreting Media offering online video content to interpreter educators and mentors across the US. The NIEC has developed and edited the only undergraduate journal devoted to ASL/English interpreting, the Journal of Undergraduate Interpreting Studies.
