Call for Applications – “Northeastern Humanities Graduate Student Fellows”

The Northeastern Humanities Center
Resident Fellowship Program: “Northeastern Humanities Graduate Student Fellows”
Call for Applications for 2013-14

The Northeastern Humanities Center invites applications for its inaugural Resident Fellowship Program for the 2013-14 academic year. We hope to fund two “Northeastern Humanities Graduate Student Fellows.”

The application deadline is Friday, March 29, 2013.  The fellowship period will be September 2013 through May 2014.

The Humanities Center Fellowship program will bring together scholars from different disciplines – both within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities as well as other colleges of Northeastern University – around a common issue of humanistic import.

2013-2014 Theme: Viral Culture

For 2013-14, the theme will be “viral culture.” The expression “viral culture” could be said to name a mode of circulation and transmission of information, ideas, and biota across time and space. We think of “viral culture” as engaging an array of important and emergent contemporary phenomenon—related to areas as diverse as social networks, the internet, new media, public health, sexuality, marketing, and globalization—but viral culture has roots, as well, in fields as diverse as the history of public health, economics, literature, transportation, and print culture. With this theme, we invite scholars working in diverse fields and periods to consider the ways in which the viral transmission of memes, diseases, electronic signals, print texts—of varied forms of culture— inform new research.
