Center for Research Innovation leads Celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week

Nov 10, 2011 | CRI

The Center for Research Innovation (CRI) is drawing from an already engaged and inspired University to pull together a calendar of events in support of Global Entrepreneurship Week, November 14-18, 2011.  GEW is the world’s largest celebration of innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.  At Northeastern, CRI is growing a University-wide ecosystem to support and foster innovation and entrepreneurship among students, faculty and alumni. “Innovation as a Catalyst, Entrepreneurship as a Mindset”, is the vision that inspires CRI, and drives their mission for ongoing collaboration resulting in venture start-ups and commercialization of research opportunities.

The highlight of the week is the CRI reception: “Inspire, Translate, Accelerate! Building Northeastern’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem”, taking place on Thursday, November 17th, at 6:15 p.m., in the lobby of West Village F at Northeastern. CRI Director and experienced entrepreneur Tracey Dodenhoff will unveil CRI’s plans for growing the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems across the University’s constituencies.  The event will also feature crowd-sourcing innovator Ben Kaufman of Quirky, as well as an inspiring panel of Northeastern entrepreneurs, each with their own story to tell.

The week also includes daily “Breakfast of Champions” sessions, with topics ranging from Venture Funding to Protecting Intellectual Property to Lean Prototyping.  Luncheon sessions include Cross Disciplinary Development and Corporate Formation, and events hosted by  several student groups on campus round out the week’s programming with visiting entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and angel investors.
