NU|ACES Student Spotlight: Mya Brown

By ACES Ambassador Grace Wang

NU|ACES Student, 2017-2018

Mya Brown is a first year International Business major originally from Atlanta, Georgia. While in high school, Mya was engaged in her community through various clubs and organizations. Wanting to build on that in college, Mya decided to join NU|ACES. “At Northeastern, I wanted to not only take up those same opportunities but push past them into developing partnerships and understand this new community I was coming to live in,” she said.

Mya’s passions are always changing. “I find things everyday to be passionate about,” she said. “One of my main focuses currently is protecting and educating women who have been victims of violence and domestic abuse, sex trafficking, and various other mental degradations”.

To Mya, civic engagement means to be a decent person. “It is not something I do to feel good about myself,” she said. “It is something that I believe is within every person and something I believe is a standard. Engagement is the back and forth, it’s me learning from people and people learning from me”. When not volunteering, you can find her enjoying her other hobbies of fashion design, shopping, and spoken word.
