Service Days

NU Service Day, MLK Day of Service, and other one-day programs provide students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to come together to assist area nonprofits with critical projects. In the past, groups have gone to organizations in Mission Hill, Fenway, Roxbury, and all around Boston. Examples of service day projects include going to the Esplanade Association to paint fences, Morville House to socialize with elderly citizens, Cradles to Crayons to sort children’s toys, the American Diabetes Walk to cheer walkers on, and New Mission High School to set up a library and athletic center.

NU Service Day is held each year on a Saturday in October. Sign-up information will be available between August-October annually.

Opportunity to Lead is a new initiative, inviting students who are interested in service and leadership to “get their feet wet” in a low-commitment way. Participants will attend a series of 3 workshops, then will serve as Team Leader on a project for NU Service Day. This is a perfect program for those who want to take a more active role, but aren’t sure where to start! This program runs each fall semester. Applications can be found here between August-October.

MLK Day of Service & Leadership is held every January on MLK Day – remember to make it a Day On, Not a Day Off! Service projects and leadership workshop tracks will each be available. Registration information will be available in late December.
