Assessment & Impact

Assessment of service-learning is a collaborative process intended to demonstrate that course-community partnerships meet both course and community goals.

Evaluation of Student Learning

As in any course, evaluation focuses on students’ ability to meet course learning goals and objectives. The same remains true for service-learning; students should be graded for their learning, not for their service. Reflective course assignments are used to connect academic content and service, allowing faculty to grade students’ demonstration of learning. Community partners also participate in the evaluation of students’ fulfillment of service objectives.
